"I am quite convinced that water fluoridation, in a not-too-distant future, will be consigned to medical history." ~~Dr. Arvid Carlsson, Winner, 2000 Nobel Prize for Medicine

Why Yes4CleanWater.Org?

Recent revelations about fluoridation raises two very important issues:

  • Substances added to our water should be safe for people of all ages
  • People should have the right to choose their medication

These issues form the basis for two efforts designed to protect our water and preserve our choices.

The Port Angeles water supply is now medicated with fluoride--a potentially unsafe element. This was decided without the knowledge or consensus of those citizens receiving the medication.

Each initiative is sponsored by a separate group of dedicated volunteers who have worked very hard for a long time to get these initiatives on the ballot so voters can exercise their right to vote on important issues.

The two initiatives promote safe drinking water in different ways thus increasing the chances that at least one will prevail over time--withstanding possible future challenges.

The Two Initiatives

The Medical Independence Act (MIA)

Sponsor: Our Water--Our Choice!

This ordinance would prohibit medication of people through public drinking water supplies while allowing necessary treatment of water to make it safe to drink.

It would enact laws that acknowledged people's rights to control medication given them via a water supply.

The Medical Independence Act says there will be no mass medication, that people have the right to plain un-medicated water on constitutional grounds; that people also have a right to approve or disapprove what medication is administered to them.

No medication (including fluoride) may be added to public drinking water.

The Water Additive Safety Act (WASA)

Sponsor: Protect Our Waters

This initiative would apply Food and Drug Administration (FDA) safety standards for any substance added to public drinking water with the intent for it to be used for medication.

No component of the additive may cause water to exceed existing federal standards determined to protect the health of everyone--infant or aged--for a lifetime.

This ordinance does not regulate chemicals added to water to make water safe or potable.

Fluoridation is allowed if the product used is proven safe by FDA standards.

Our Current Situation in a Nut Shell

The initiative process itself is still in the center ring. Both initiatives are held for resolution of legal issues. Yes4CleanWater needs funds for campaign expenses and court costs. If you can help in any way, please let us know.

How We Got Where We Are Today

What tests have been done and are they credible? Does everyone fluoridate their water? What is the difference between fluorine and fluoride and why so many different terms? Who tests our water to ensure a safe level of fluoride?

In March, 2006, the National Research Council broke important ground by dedicating an entire chapter of its report to the growing body of evidence indicating that fluoride can damage the brain. According to the NRC, it is apparent that fluorides have the ability to interfere with the functions of the brain and the body by direct and indirect means.”~~NRC Report
